Education:
Born and raised in Alabama, Dr. Stanford received an associate’s degree in biology from Bevill State Community College in Hamilton, Alabama, and his undergraduate degree in biology from University of Alabama at Birmingham. He graduated medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri and trained in orthopedic surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Missouri. He is currently finishing an orthopedic surgery sports medicine fellowship program at the prestigious Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA under the direction and leadership of Champ Baker Jr, MD.

Residency:
Before becoming a surgeon, he spent time in the lab tutoring underclassmen as a teaching assistant in the anatomy department at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and he was an adjunct faculty assistant professor at the university during his residency program.

Biography:
Dr. Stanford has a passion for sports medicine and the health of athletes. He has treated athletes and worked with the sports medicine team for Golden Glove Boxing and the Kansas City area high school football teams. He was also the resident team physician for the Kansas City Comets soccer team. During his Hughston Sports Medicine Fellowship, Dr. Stanford worked with multiple high school athletic programs, the semi professional Columbus Cottonmouths hockey team and the Columbus Lions Arena football team. He was also a member of the medical staff for the Division II Valdosta State Blazers football program. While at the Hughston clinic he has participated in various academic research projects involving orthopedic surgery and was awarded the Fellows Research Award for Excellence during his fellowship year.

More/Other Information:
Dr. Stanford is board eligible in orthopedic surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America. Dr. Stanford grew up playing sports and enjoys attending various sporting events, especially Auburn football games. He also enjoys outdoor recreational activities, such as hunting, fishing, and ATV riding and spending time with his wife Lindy and son Carter. He looks forward to establishing his family and practice in Athens. He will be joining two established surgeons, Drs. Boyett and Lawrence, at OrthoSports Athens.
